Our Stories

For veterans, finding a sense of community or excitement that compares to what was experienced in the military can be a unique challenge. For some, that search ends in substance abuse, poor relationships, risk-seeking behaviors, and for too many, ultimately taking their lives. Reel Warriors provides uncommon adventures away from the daily challenges of normal life, experienced with others with relatable experiences. These experiences forge life-long bonds and mutual support. A fish on the line is just the beginning. Here are a few of our Warriors.

Bradley Nielsen
Army

After leaving the military and moving back home, I was struck by how much I missed the tight-knit community and brotherhood that had been such a significant part of my life. It was as if a vital part of my identity had been left behind, and I struggled to find that same sense of belonging and purpose in the civilian world.

Then, by chance, I discovered Reel Warriors and decided to sign up for one of their fishing trips. I had no idea at the time how much this decision would change my life. The experience of spending a day-and-a-half on the open ocean, far removed from the daily stresses and routines, was incredibly refreshing. But what truly made it special was the opportunity to connect with other veterans. We shared stories, laughed, and built new bonds that reminded me of the camaraderie I had missed so much.

This trip with Reel Warriors didn't just give me a much-needed break, it reignited a passion within me that I thought was lost.

It reminded me of the importance of selfless service and gave me a renewed sense of purpose. Now, I feel driven to give back to the veteran community and to support and uplift others who may be going through the same challenges I faced. Reel Warriors gave me more than just a great fishing trip – they helped me reconnect with the values and the community that have always been at the core of who I am.

Reel Warriors gave me the opportunity to feel the thrill and excitement of landing a monster bluefin!

I’m so grateful for the experience of feeling alive in the middle of the open ocean, enveloped in the camaraderie of my fellow veterans.

Thank you, Reel Warriors. I will be forever grateful.

Josh Tesmer
Air Force

My fishing trip with Reel Warriors was an amazing opportunity to connect with other veterans while also renewing my passion for fishing.

I was able to make new friendships that have continued long after my trip was completed, and I’ve witnessed many positive changes in those who went with us.

It truly is an outstanding opportunity to build community among veterans through a shared passion for fishing.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am to the Reel Warriors Foundation. They turned my life around in a positive way. It's not only fishing at Reel Warrior's Foundation that is a brotherhood.

I was in a bad place when I signed up for Reel Warriors, but I am glad I did. There is something about fishing that is relaxing – and the staff here is outstanding and pointed me in the right direction to start my recovery for PTSD.

I cannot express how much this fishing trip changed my life. Thank you, Reel Warriors Foundation!

Reel Warriors joined us on the Tomahawk for a day-and-a-half fishing trip. What a great pleasure to have some of our country's finest distinguished heroes aboard the vessel...not to mention they can fish.

“Kinda” words cannot describe the pride you feel to be in the presence of our country's most dedicated patriots.

Giving back more than just a "thank you for your service" is something I will always hold dear to my heart!
